Saturday was a home day for the Ladies 1s as they took on Aberdeen University. It was to prove to be another frustrating day as GCW had more personnel changes with little effect on the scoresheet. GCW had most of the pressure for the game but as has been the case previously chances came and went.
In the first quarter it looked as if Sara Duthie had broken the deadlock with a simple flick at goal but she got too much height on the shot and it beat the keeper but went over the bar. In the second half Sara had a couple of other shots beaten away by the keeper and the GCW corners were not as crisp as needed in order to get the ball over the line. Milly Moyes also had a chance but was beaten away by the keeper.
The GCW defence stood solid throughout and it required only one save all day from keeper Jess Walker. However the failings were the same, not being clinical enough in attack and composure not as good as it needs to be approaching the opponents circle.
The side featured two debutants, Isla Goodbrand and Milly Moyes who both faired well. Isla joined in with Heather Hunter and Eleanor Barr as three girls who first featured for the “fabulous 5s” together pre Covid. It is nice to see the club’s development of youngsters can take them through together from introduction to first team games.
Next up is Kelburne at Aberdeen Sports Village 3.30 next Saturday hopefully the goals will have been saved up for that game.
