GCW’s aim is to provide each and every member with the opportunity to play hockey at the level at which they wish to play.
“Performance or Fun, Hockey for Everyone”
We are proud to play at the top of the game in Scotland with our Women’s First team competing in Scottish National League and out Men’s First team competing in Scottish National League . However we are also proud of our efforts to encourage players of all abilities and ages within the Aberdeen area to take up hockey and develop their skills. We boast 3 Mens outdoor teams and 5 Ladies teams. In addition to our outdoor teams we field Mens and Ladies indoor sides during the colder months. Both Men’s and Women’s First teams compete in the National Indoor Leagues with the other teams competing in the Aberdeen District Leagues.
Each player is given the opportunity to find their own level as coaching is provided at a variety of weekly sessions.

The club has a very strong history and a committed policy towards developing our youth players. We currently run dedicated coaching sessions for Primary and Secondary age pupils, which are led by qualified coaches. In terms of competitive hockey, we run a variety of youth teams from U10 upwards (playing both indoor and outdoor formats) and will always encourage players to play senior hockey once they have reached the appropriate stage of development and can cope physically playing in an adult environment. We also have a strong track record in supporting players to represent North District, and will always encourage players to trial for the various U14, U16 and U18 squads. A number of our coaches have experience of coaching at District level, and this enables us to mentor players to make the most of their opportunities at representative level. The club are very proud to have had a number of youth players gain international honours at U16, U18 and U21 levels over the years.
See our Youth page for more details
To compliment the hockey, Granite City Wanderers has a very strong social side in which we encourage all members to get involved. We are a prime example of a club that enjoys its sport but never forgets that we wish to play our sport in the company of friends. We organise many social events throughout the year. We were also one of the first sports clubs in Aberdeen to receive Enhanced Club Accreditation, a quality assurance programme run by Sport Aberdeen to acknowledge clubs who are run in a well organised manner.
We always welcome new members to the club!
We think we are the best club in the North East, but don’t just take our word for it – have a look at some of our testimonials… and more importantly, Come along and see for yourself.
