Youth FULL Weekend

Well what a weekend that was. Plenty of action and plenty of success and even some sun.

It all started on Friday evening with the U10s and U12s playing at ASV against Teams from BAMBC, Ellon, Gordonians and Grammar. It was an exciting evening watching the younger members of the club showing off their skills. Plenty of wins and of course plenty of fun. A great way to start a fine weekend.

On Saturday we had the usual games day at ASV but numbers were justifiably lower as we had 3 teams in Dundee competing at the U14s. Some new aerial skills on display and Jane Somerset showing the younger elements how to do 3d skills, fun in the sun. In Dundee however it was even better with two girls teams in separate groups playing outside the city for the first time and a boys team also playing together for the third time in three weeks. The girls “A” team topped their group with 4 wins from 5 to qualify for the finals in two weeks time. The other teams suffered for lack of goalkeepers but they were younger and less experienced so we will get them next year. Plenty of fun and thanks to Kirsty Dewhirst and Amy Simmers for travelling and umpiring for them.

Sunday and the U16s were on against BAMBC. We were missing most of our older players thanks to school DOE training and two of our girls playing for the Dundee Devils, more later. Despite the relative inexperience of the team it dominated most of the play and created many chances but the ability to be calm in finishing was not there. Eventually BAMBC broke away and scored and that was how the game ended but a good team performance and this leaves selection issues for this Sunday against Ellon.

Finally Heather Hunter and Eleanor Barr featured strongly for the Dundee Devils against Glasgow in Dundee. A ding dong game finished 3-3. The Devils going 2-0 down before recovering to lead going into the final minutes of the game. A late Glasgow Thunder equaliser pushed the game to running penalties. With the game tied it was down to Eleanor Barr to round the keeper and win the game and the series for the Devils to “thunderous” applause from team mates and parents.

What a weekend !!!
