This weekend was the final game in the U16 girls sequence of friendlies. The previous two weekends had seen a couple of defeats but steady improvement in the way the squad wished to play. The opposition this weekend was Ellon who were largely an inexperienced squad with GCW having almost their strongest squad.
The game went as expected with the GCW girls pressing and creating chances but the first period had only one Rachel Ewen strike to show for their efforts. The second period was a continuation of the GCW power play and they stretched to a 4-0 lead before a counter by Ellon. The final third was all GCW again and three further goals were scored to finish with a 7-1 result. The other scorers were Eleanor Barr (2), Heather Hunter (2), Lucy Cruickshank and Ava Aires. The most pleasing thing was the better cohesion in the team and the understanding of how they wanted to play. Also thanks to Kirsty Dewhirst for umpiring especially as she visited Ellon’s home ground first..
Friday evening saw another successful evening for the U10s and U12s at Bucksburn. The additional help of umpires Isla Goodbrand and Alex Lynch was much appreciated as well as “super coach” Grace Morrison.
Saturday was another successful games day for the youth at a busy Aberdeen Sports Village with even some of the coaches getting a run around.
