In a pre season dogged by pitch issues we now have the National league fixtures for GCW men and women for season 2021-22. The first date for the new season is 11th September 2021. As this date was likely to clash with the surface relay at Aberdeen Sport Village Scottish Hockey have allowed GCW to play their initial games away from home.
The Ladies 1s will travel to Perth to take on Perthshire who are newcomers to the National League. Given the huge turnaround in numbers in the girls team it will be interesting to see how the girls cope away in week 1 against the newcomers. Week 2 is supposed to be against Edinburgh Hockey Club in Aberdeen so is likely to be at Rubislaw.
The men also have an away trip slightly less onerous as they shall travel all the way to Countesswells Road to play Gordonians. The boys again have faced a significant turnover in players in the 18 months since Covid reared its ugly (spikey) head. At least this away trip will keep GCW treasurer Hayley Barr happy with minimum fuel spend (zero).
