GCW U18s at Peffermill

U18s in 2019 ready for action

This Sunday sees the start of the National Club Cups with the U18s taking place at Peffermill, sorry no live streaming available. GCW will travel with a full squad and be captained by Connie Hatfield. Manager Esther Walterson is grateful just to get back to competition “It is a shame we missed out last season but the new group of girls are keen to give it their all and Connie has been through it all before so she will be a good leader.”

The squad is considerably younger than normal with a few youngsters being given the opportunity to see “big girls” hockey first-hand. The hope is that the younger ones will bring back a sense of purpose and drive to enhance the under 16s National Club Cup team and to progress within the club.

In GCW’s group are Kelburne, Inverleith and Highland and a top spot is required to make the semi-finals in early November.

The National U16 club cup has also been drawn and thanks to the semi-final placing of the previous U16s GCW are one of four seeds. This means that we play two games in Aberdeen…who would have “thunk it”. The games take place over the year with GCW to play Western Wildcats in October in Aberdeen and Gullane away in November. The final match is against Grange in Aberdeen before March. If they top their pool they qualify for the finals on Sunday March 2022.

Exciting times for the young squads and welcome back hockey competition.
